An “inspirational” Newport Cub Scout leader with hearing loss is travelling across the country to teach youngsters vital sign language skills.

Alex Miller, who is deaf, has visited Scout groups across Wales and England over the past two years to educate them on how to use basic sign language and also raise awareness of hearing-related disabilities.

The 25-year-old, who is an assistant leader with the 29th Newport Sea Scouts, has so far taught up to 100 Scouts sign language through practical sessions and also by using song.

In our recent review of the Dragon Award we had a fantastic response

generating a lot of ideas for the new Dragon Award. The ScoutsCymru Programme Team would like to thank all those who contributed and hope you can see your idea in the new Award. The team hope you enjoy the new Dragon Award and your nightsaway and camping experience scouting in Wales.

We are delighted to announce the launch of the NEW Welsh Beaver, Cub and Scout Awards!

These awards are part of our programme to help us celebrate our Welsh heritage and the place we live. To take part in the award you need to register (a link to do so can be found in the pack) and then you have a maximum of 12 months to complete the award with your Colony, Pack or Troop. Whether you do the award as part of your weekly programme, a special event or a camp is up to you!

The fifth All Wales Scouts Orienteering competition will be held on Sunday 12th May 2019.

Although the competition is only open to Scouts and Explorer Scouts, we are opening the courses to Leaders and Helpers if they wish to give Orienteering a try, although the entries will not be included in the competition but times will be given for to anyone completing a course.

The closing date for entries is 29th April.
