Llangollen Beavers learning Welsh songs around the campfire

The Welsh Beaver, Cub and Scout Awards were relaunched by ScoutsCymru in January of this year and have been completed for the first time by the Llangollen District Beavers.

The North Wales contingent completed the award over the course of one day with a range of Welsh themed activities.

The award revamp has meant that the process of completion is now more flexible, and the badge list has been updated.

The updated badges include; Wales in the past, Wales in the future, Our culture, Where we live and Things to do.

Scouts at the airport

Scouts from all over Wales are busy preparing for the trip of a lifetime to the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia.

Joining 45,000 Scouts from nearly every country across the world, the Welsh contingent have spent nearly two years planning, training and fundraising £3500 each to take part in one of the most international events on the planet.

Nominations for the Celebration of Scouting Awards 2019 are now open with groups and volunteers encouraged to put themselves and their colleagues forward.

The awards, now in their third year, recognise and celebrate Scouting successes throughout Wales.

There are eight categories of awards:

Swansea Pride

June is Pride Month, a month to celebrate gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and asexual people, plus all other sexual orientations and genders.

To coincide with this, we have caught up with Louisa Shapton, a member the Apollo 7 Explorer Scout Unit, who attended her first Pride event earlier this year.

On May 4th, 17-year-old Louisa along with 12 explorers, leaders and support members attended Swansea Pride.

Woodland clean up

A group of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from 5th Neath Bryncoch have drafted in the support of the local community to rescue an unloved woodland area in Bryncoch Neath.

The Scouts Group partnered with local environment group Clean Cymru, Neath Port Talbot Council and local Councillors for the woodland clean, which took place on May 31st.

During the day, 50 people took part in a rubbish collection and area tidy up, before hearing a habitat talk by an Environmental Officer.

All Wales Cub Fun Day - Sally Holland with Cubs

ScoutsCymru hosted it’s All Wales Cub Fun Day at the Royal Welsh Show Ground this month where 1500 Cubs came together for a day of fun and skills development.

The Cubs, alongside 500 adult volunteers, from across Wales enjoyed activities across four zones designed to encourage them to expand their skill set and work collaboratively with others.

The Adventure Zone activities ranged from high ropes to water games in a bid to get their adrenaline pumping.

Striking camp from Llantwit Major pitching up in Caerphilly

Having been pitched up in Llantwit Major for the past 27 years, ScoutsCymru is moving to a new home in Caerphilly this month.

The move to our new premises - Castle House, Southern Street, Caerphilly CF83 1LH – marks a new era for the organisation and is set to give us a professional presence, which everyone can be proud of.

Close to Cardiff, yet without the high rents of our capital city, our new offices provide a welcoming space for members.

So, we will be profiling one volunteer a day over the course of the week in celebration! Next up we have Nick Lancaster, 41, originally from Hampshire but a resident of Brecon for 20 years.
