With an increasingly complex world to navigate, leadership skills and team work have never been so important for young people in Wales. So, the team in ScoutsCymru have spent the last few months building a new leadership team and putting plans in place to make sure these skills are shared with volunteers who then pass them onto 15,000 young people in Wales.

A new Commissioner has been appointed for Carmarthenshire as Ian Francis has stepped down from the role. Jonathan Williams will take over as Acting Area Commissioner from 7th October for a year. 

Chair of the Search Group, Sue Benbow, Regional Commissioner said, “I am pleased to welcome Jon to the team, it is an exciting time for Scouting in the area and I know that Jon will bring a new perspective, energy and a desire to build relationships with volunteers.

The finalists for this year’s Celebration of Scouting Awards have been announced by ScoutsCymru.

Sixty-one individuals and groups from across Wales have been shortlisted in eight categories.

The awards, now in their third year, recognise and celebrate Scouting successes throughout Wales.

A pilot scheme launched in Wales sees Scouting take a lead role in the wellbeing of young people with family members in prison.

ScoutsCymru, alongside the family team at G4S, has established a group for young people who visit family members at HMP Parc Prison in Bridgend.

Following a tough assessment process two new Regional Commissioners have been appointed, one for Powys and one for South Wales.

Simon Gatley will take over from Adrian Austin on 27 September and Rob Redmond will take up the post on 23 September.

Chief Commissioner of Wales, Rhian Moore said, “I am excited to welcome Simon and Rob to team Cymru it is an exciting time for Scouting in the region

Both Simon and Rob excelled in the assessment process and bring a wealth of leadership and Scouting experience to the team.

Celebration of Scouting Awards

With the deadline for nominations for the Celebration of Scouting Awards 2019 edging closer, we’re continuing to profile some of last year’s winners.

Next up is Bernard Gravill who won the Lifetime Achievement Award 2018.

Bernard won the award due to his outstanding contribution to the growth of Scouting, both within Penyffordd and Flintshire District, and his previous Scouting career which began some 62 years ago.

Bernard joined the Scouts as a 14-year-old boy and in 1959, 2 years after joining, he achieved the Queen Scout Award.

A new Commissioner has been appointed for Mid Glamorgan following the retirement of Margaret Hopkin from the role.

Craig Middle will take over as Area Commissioner at the AGM in September.
