What is a World Jamboree?

It is a gathering of Explorer Scouts from around the world, for 12 days of adventurous activities, memorable events, and international friendship in a campsite big enough to accommodate tens of thousands of young people. A World Jamboree is held every four years, and the 23rd World Scout Jamboree can expect over 200 countries and cultures!

A Jamboree Unit consists of 36 Explorer Scouts, 3 Assistant Leaders and 1 Unit Leader. For the 23rd World Scout Jamboree, Scouts Wales will be operating two Jamboree Units and will therefore be looking to appoint 8 adults to the above roles.

When is the Jamboree?
The 23rd World Scout Jamboree runs from 28 July to 8 August 2015. In the past it is has been the practice for UK Units to come together 2-3 days before the start of the Jamboree and to extend our stay with Home Hospitality (HoHo) for 2-3 days after the Jamboree. Please bear this in mind.

Where is the Jamboree?
The Jamboree will be held at Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan

Is still being determined by the UK Contingent and is expected to be released in July.

Expected commitment

It is the normal practice for the Leadership teams to meet up with their units at least 6 weekends leading up to the Jamboree for getting to know days, camp training, fundraising etc and for Leader planning meetings. Hence, the commitment isn’t just the Jamboree 12 – 18 days of the actual Jamboree.
