Caving Taster Day for Leaders - South Wales

Sat 1st Jun - Sat 1st Jun 2019

This Caving Taster day is aimed at Scout Leaders who would like to:

  • know more about the activity and how they might be able to get their Scouts involved in caving in the future
  • understand what would be involved in obtaining a Permit to lead caving sessions
  • experience caving and have first-hand experience of the benefits of caving as an activity for young people
  • be aware of range of ways that caving can be provided for Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts in South Wales and how the Caver Activity Badge may be obtained

All caving equipment will be supplied and joining instructions will be provided to all participants. There is no charge for this Caving Taster Day.

9am to 5pm, morning in the upper Swansea Valley, afternoon in the Ystradfellte area.

The day will start with a short presentation showing examples of caves that can be visited by led groups and an overview of the use of Caving as an activity for Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts. This will be followed by a trip underground for participants to experience the activity first hand.

The Session will run by Gary Evans, CIC & BCA Trainer/Assessor, who is the Caving Advisor to ScoutsCymru.
