Mountain activities

Yr Hafod, in the heart of Snowdonia, is the perfect base for your adventure into this magnificent area of North Wales.

Whether you’re looking for an adventurous mountain trek to some of the highest mountains in the UK, or are looking for a more relaxed walk through this famous National Park, Yr Hafod offers the ideal location for your visit.

Yr Hafod offers accommodation for 32 people in a centrally heated, well equipped building sitting at the foot of Yr Garn.  It is also a centre for adult mountaineering covering both training and assessment, offering a range of courses for adult Scout Leaders for over 50 years.

The training courses at Yr Hafod are for adult Scout leaders wishing to obtain either national governing body awards such as the Hill & Mountain Skills, Mountain Leader Award or Single Pitch Award and the Scout Associations Hillwalking and Climbing adventurous activity permits.  The courses on offer are designed to give Scout leaders the appropriate level of training or assessment, enabling them to take Scouts into the hills of the UK.

Our friendly and experienced staff are adept at working with a wide range of groups across different ages and abilities. The team hold all relevant qualifications for training and assessing and the centre is recognised by Mountain Training. There is also the opportunity for Explorer and Network members to undertake the Open Gold Expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Yr Hafod.
